A Florence mother whose three-month-old infant died from Shaken Baby Syndrome finds comfort and support from a new network of friends she's discovered online.
With the help of the popular website, MySpace.com, she's coping and trying to help others do the same.
Erin Hubbard reads a message she sent to a complete stranger online. Her name is Kristy, and they've never met--at least not in person.
"I pretty much told her my story and you know, if I could be of any help to her, any support whatsoever, that I was here and so were 78,000 other people from Myspace," says Hubbard.
Hubbard's three-month old son Zach died from Shaken Baby Syndrome while Erin and her fiance were out last February. Baby Zach was home with the baby sitter. She says her new-found friend Kristy shares a similar experience.
"My friend Rachel called me and told me that there was a baby with Shaken Baby Syndrome on Myspace," she says.
Since then, she's been in contact with Kristy and her family through MySpace.
"I watched it with my son and it's like I can relate to the feelings that she has at this moment with Kaleb."
She says she can't look at the pictures too long because they remind her of little Zach.
"It was just really hard trying to not think about zach at that moment and pay attention to her baby. that was really hard."
But Hubbard says she finds comfort, comforting her new friend, even though at times, it's hard.
"It just makes you wonder why can good things happen to one family and not the other, but then you quickly come to your mind and say, 'You know what? God did it for a reason and he's in a bigger, better place.'"
Now, Hubbard is starting a non-profit organization for abused kids, "In loving memory of Zach Mcdaniel." She hopes to have it licensed within a year. You can find a link to erin's page by clicking on the link below.
